    Land Acquisition Bill

Post  Admin on Sat Sep 24, 2011 9:15 pm

The history of land acquisition can be traced back to the british era , when it was passed in 1894 as an act which allowed the government to acquire the land for public use.

Here we are discussing about the recently introduced bill during the monsoon session , the key features of the bill are :

-Consent of 80 per cent of people will be made mandatory except where land is acquired for public purpose.

However, consent will be not mandatory, when land is acquired by the government for its own use.

-Urgency clause will be invoked in rarest of rare cases like national defence. (Earlier this clause has been wrongfully used to acquire land for private

developers , and that may be known to you all .)

-There will be different land acquisition norms for rural and urban areas.

-The bill proposals include a subsistence allowance of 3,000 per family per month for a year and an annuity of 2,000 per family per month for 20 years.

-The bill also includes employment provisions including government scemes .

-states are free to have their own land acquisition laws.

    Merits:

80% consent will itself mean that the farmers will have to be asked before acquisition and cases like noida and pune or even singur can be prevented

If the land is barren then there will not be any owner other wise there will always be a owner. The Benifits will be given to each member of the family for the land acquisition.
